Salt electrolysis technology is very popular in residential pools, with over half of all new in-ground pools being equipped with this system.
Having a saltwater pool has many advantages over traditional chlorine pools: they are easier to maintain, resulting in cleaner, clearer water without the use of harsh chemicals, which also reduces the risk of contamination.
However, exposure to a saline environment can damage stainless steel equipment, such as ladders or handrails.
This damage can be visible through rust and corrosion.
Traditional stainless steel solutions: Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, but it is not corrosion proof.
Once oxidised, stainless steel will corrode, but at a much slower rate than other metals.
Currently available solutions on the market are ladders made of: AISI 304L (also known as A2): contains a high percentage by weight of nickel and chromium.
AISI 316L (also known as A4): contains molybdenum.
Molybdenum is chlorine resistant, making it suitable for areas exposed to harsh chemicals, salted roads or coastal environments.
This stainless steel is also a good solution for pools with salt electrolysis, but it requires more maintenance than other materials if the water conditions are not ideal.
